Canada announces a new open work permit for applicants in the spousal and family class as part of its plan to make it easier for permanent residents to bring their families to the country. Canada has introduced open work permits for individuals who are spouses and dependent children of Canadian residents, reside in Canada with their sponsor, and possess temporary resident status.
As of now, spouses, partners, and dependents can obtain an open work permit immediately upon submitting a comprehensive application for permanent residence under the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada (SCLPC) class or other family class programs.
Furthermore, Fraser declared that individuals holding open work permits, including spousal applicants, whose permits are set to expire between August 1 and the conclusion of 2023, will have the opportunity to extend their work permits for an additional 18 months. A similar extension option has recently been provided to those whose post-graduation work permits are nearing expiration.
