FAQ

How to get a work permit in the UK?

To work in the UK as a skilled worker, you must obtain a Skilled Worker visa which requires an offer of a skilled job in the UK. The visa has a minimum salary threshold of £25,600, or the specific salary requirement for the occupation, commonly known as the ‘going rate’. Additionally, a licensed sponsor in the UK must offer you a COS-Certificate of Sponsorship to be eligible for the visa. You can find the list of licensed sponsors on the Skilled Worker sponsor list, and your work must align with that of the sponsoring organization.

Processing Time

Applying for the visa is possible three months before commencing work in the UK. The start date of your work will be specified in the certificate of sponsorship obtained from your UK employer. The decision on your visa application will typically be communicated to you within three weeks. Furthermore, as the UK government expands the list of occupations in the Shortage Occupation List, processing times are expected to decrease for many applicants.

Can you work on another job or study on the Skilled Worker visa?

In addition to your sponsored job, you have the option to take up a secondary job while on the visa. You may also pursue studies, subject to obtaining the appropriate permissions from the government. (UK work visa from India)

What is the duration of the visa?

Is IELTS required for the Skilled Worker visa?

The UK visa applicants are not required to take the IELTS exam. They can meet the English language requirements through either IELTS for UKVI (General) with a minimum score of 4 bands in all four modules or a UK NARIC report for their Bachelor's or Master's qualification.

Is there free medical services for the visa holders?

No, they have to pay the fees as per the NHS charges.
